Rules1
for the Mousetrap Powered Car2
- 1.
- There is no size or weight limit to your car. It may be any
size
or weight.3
- 2.
- Your design will be driven by the power supplied by one (1)
small
mousetrap. No rat traps!
- 3.
- You may use any material available to create your car -
wood,
Styrofoam, foam board, bricks, 2x4's, I-beams, etc.
- 4.
- You must bring in your own wheels. Wheels can be made from
materials
that float.
- 5.
- You must experiment and choose how the mousetrap will cause
the
wheels to turn.
- 6.
- You may use any size wheel axles that you find necessary to
work
with your choice of wheels.
- 7.
- You may not alter the mousetrap, but you may add extensions
to
the bail (the real name for the mouse smasher).
- 8.
- No store bought, or kit-bashed
cars. I expect you to make your
own car. 4
- 9
- We will devote a few days of class time to the design and
construction
of the car. BUT it's due on March 11, 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Footnotes:
1Ten
(10)
dollars to the winner of the contest. Mr. Herkes almost never
wins, or he always wins. It just depends on where you sit . . .
2Rule
eight (8) applies if you plan to race the car. See foot note
one (1). If you just want to turn in a car, then go ahead and buy
it. You will not be graded lower, but you will not be racing a bought
/ bashed mousetrap powered car.
3Of
course the lightest longest car will win. Exception: a car with
a compound motion.
4Psst!
Look get your mom or dad to help . . . remind them that you'll
be driving in just a short time, and this will "get you ready
for the real thing."
